Is The Girlfriend Based on a Book?
Yes.
The Girlfriend is based on Michelle Frances’ novel of the same name.

The television adaptation brings the novel’s central psychological conflict to the screen, using shifting perspectives and uncertainty to keep viewers questioning the characters and their motives.
What Genre Is The Girlfriend?
The Girlfriend is a psychological thriller and drama.
The series focuses heavily on relationships and psychological tension rather than traditional action. The suspense comes from the uncertainty surrounding Laura’s suspicions and the question of whether Cherry is really hiding something.
That makes the show particularly appealing to viewers who enjoy character-driven thrillers, family dramas, and stories where it is difficult to know which character to trust.
