There is a pretty wild idea at the center of One Night Only: in this version of New York City, single people get just one night a year when sex is allowed.
That is the world Allie and Owen find themselves in. Played by Monica Barbaro and Callum Turner, the two meet during the city’s biggest night of the year, but what starts as a potentially simple encounter turns into something neither of them expected.
Directed by Will Gluck, One Night Only mixes that unusual premise with a more familiar romantic comedy story. The movie is now available to watch at home digitally.
One Night Only Movie Release Date
One Night Only was released digitally on September 8, 2026.
That means viewers who missed the movie in theaters can now rent or buy it digitally rather than waiting for a streaming subscription release.
There is also a physical release on the way. Universal Pictures has scheduled the movie for 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD on October 20, 2026.
The film first arrived in theaters in July.

What Is One Night Only About?
The movie takes place in an alternate New York where single people can have sex on only one night every year.
Naturally, that one night becomes a huge event.
Owen has recently been dumped and isn’t exactly approaching the evening with the same romantic expectations as Allie. She’s more interested in finding a genuine connection, even though the entire city seems to be treating the night as one big opportunity for a temporary encounter.
When Allie and Owen meet, things don’t simply go according to plan.
Their night takes a series of unexpected turns, with mistakes and detours sending them around the city and gradually changing the way they see the situation and each other.
That’s where the movie moves beyond its unusual premise. Beneath the one-night rule, One Night Only is still a story about two people trying to work out what they actually want.
You can read the full premise on the official Universal Pictures synopsis.
One Night Only Cast
Monica Barbaro and Callum Turner lead the cast as Allie and Owen.
The rest of the cast includes:
- Maya Hawke
- Julia Fox
- King Princess
- Ziwe
- Ben Marshall
- Molly Ringwald
- LeVar Burton
- Michelle Hurd
- Este Haim
- Mike Birbiglia
- Jay Ellis
Barbaro’s Allie is the more hopeful romantic of the two, while Turner plays Owen, who is dealing with a recent breakup when the story begins.
That contrast gives the pair a natural starting point. They’re looking at the same unusual night from very different perspectives.

How Long Is One Night Only?
One Night Only runs for approximately 1 hour and 42 minutes.
The movie is rated R for sexual material, language and brief nudity, which isn’t particularly surprising given the premise.
One Night Only Trailer
The official trailer gives a good introduction to the strange rules of the movie’s world and shows how Allie and Owen first cross paths.
It also makes clear that the story isn’t simply about the annual event itself. Their relationship becomes the main focus as the night starts to go in unexpected directions.
Universal has also released a behind-the-scenes featurette, A Look Inside.

One Night Only 2026: What to Know
The easiest way to describe One Night Only is probably as a romantic comedy with a deliberately unusual setup.
The idea of giving everyone one night a year for casual sex creates plenty of opportunities for chaos, but the movie uses that setting to tell a smaller story about Allie and Owen.
They’re not necessarily looking for the same thing when they meet. As the night continues, though, their expectations start to shift.
With Barbaro and Turner at the center and Gluck directing, the film should appeal to viewers who enjoy contemporary romantic comedies but want something a little different from the usual setup.
And because the movie is already available digitally, you don’t have to wait long to find out whether the concept works.
FilmRadar also covers new streaming releases and where to watch movies in its Streaming section.
Is One Night Only Streaming?
There is an important distinction between being available digitally and being included with a streaming subscription.
Right now, One Night Only can be rented or purchased through digital retailers. Universal lists platforms such as Apple TV and Prime Video among the available options.
Whether the movie is available in your particular market can vary, so it’s worth checking the retailer directly before renting or buying.
Final Thoughts
One Night Only has one of those premises that immediately tells you what kind of night its characters are going to have and then gives them plenty of reasons for things to go wrong.
Monica Barbaro and Callum Turner lead the movie as two people who enter the same unusual night with very different expectations. Will Gluck, meanwhile, brings his experience with modern romantic comedy to the project.
The movie is already available digitally as of September 8, while the 4K, Blu-ray and DVD editions are scheduled for October 20, 2026.
For anyone searching for where to watch One Night Only, digital rental or purchase is currently the main option.
