Heartland Netflix is bringing a dark new mystery thriller to its 2026 lineup, with Jessica Chastain starring as a former country music superstar pulled back into Nashville after her niece mysteriously disappears.
Written and directed by Shana Feste, the movie combines a missing-person investigation with the darker side of the country music industry. Netflix has now released the official trailer, giving viewers their first extended look at Chastain’s character, Misty Jones, and the mystery surrounding her missing niece.
Here is everything to know about Heartland on Netflix, including its release date, cast, story, trailer, and where to watch it.
When Is Heartland Coming to Netflix?
Heartland premieres on Netflix on November 13, 2026.
Netflix has officially listed the movie as part of its fall 2026 lineup, with the film scheduled to arrive on the streaming service on November 13. The movie has a reported runtime of 1 hour and 51 minutes.
For viewers tracking the biggest upcoming movies of the year, Heartland is also part of FilmRadar’s broader upcoming movies in 2026 guide.
What Is Heartland About?
Heartland follows Misty Jones, a former country music superstar who has spent years away from Nashville and the spotlight.
Her life changes when her niece, Charlie Heart, a rising country musician, disappears.
Misty returns to Nashville to find her and begins investigating what happened. As the search continues, she is forced to confront the city and the music industry she left behind.
Netflix describes the story as a journey into Nashville’s darker side, where appearances can be misleading and nobody — including Misty herself — is necessarily who they seem.
The movie therefore combines several elements: a missing-person mystery, country music, family drama, and thriller.
Heartland Cast: Who Stars in the Netflix Movie?
The Heartland Netflix cast is led by Jessica Chastain.
The main cast includes:
- Jessica Chastain as Misty Jones
- Garrett Hedlund as Roy Combs
- Carter Faith as Charlie Heart
- Ross Lynch as Jace
- Jennifer Nettles as Winnie Jo Lean
- John Hawkes as Clark
- Paul Sparks
- Ben Dickey
- Hill Harper
- Norbert Leo Butz
- Wynn Everett
Netflix’s official cast listing confirms Chastain, Hedlund, Faith, Lynch, Nettles, Hawkes, and the other principal performers.
Carter Faith is particularly notable because she is a real-life rising country music artist making her acting debut in the film. She also recorded music for the movie’s soundtrack.
Jessica Chastain Plays Misty Jones
Jessica Chastain takes on one of the movie’s central roles as Misty Jones, a former country music star who has withdrawn from public life.
Misty is not presented as a conventional detective. She is a complicated former celebrity returning to a world she deliberately abandoned.
Her investigation into Charlie’s disappearance forces her to revisit her past while navigating Nashville’s music industry.
Chastain also performs her own singing in Heartland. Netflix notes that the actress previously drew on her musical performance experience in projects including The Eyes of Tammy Faye and George & Tammy.
Who Is Charlie Heart?
Charlie Heart is Misty’s missing niece and a young country musician following in her aunt’s footsteps.
The character is played by Carter Faith, who brings her real-world experience as a country singer to the role.
Charlie is at the center of the movie’s mystery. Her disappearance is what brings Misty back to Nashville and sets the investigation in motion.
Who Directed Heartland?
Shana Feste wrote and directed Heartland.
Feste previously wrote and directed the 2010 country music drama Country Strong, making Heartland another project that brings her back into the world of Nashville and country music.
Netflix describes the new movie as a thriller with strong music and noir influences, while Feste’s previous experience with country-focused storytelling gives Heartland a natural connection to that setting.
Heartland Trailer: What Does It Reveal?
Netflix released the official Heartland trailer on October 6, 2026.
The trailer opens with Misty returning to Nashville after spending around two decades away. She explains that she has come back because her niece, Charlie Heart, is missing.
The footage then introduces the investigation and the people surrounding Charlie, while showing Misty moving through a Nashville filled with secrets, music-industry figures, and potential suspects.
The trailer also gives viewers a look at Misty’s complicated personality. She is not portrayed as a conventional hero, and her history appears to be just as important to the mystery as Charlie’s disappearance.
You can watch the official Heartland trailer and Netflix announcement on Netflix Tudum.
What Is Heartland Really About?
At its core, Heartland is a mystery about a woman searching for someone from her own family.
But the movie also explores the darker side of fame and the country music business.
Misty once occupied the center of Nashville’s music scene. Now she has to return to that world while investigating the disappearance of a young performer who may have been following the same path.
That gives the movie two connected mysteries:
- What happened to Charlie Heart?
- Why did Misty abandon Nashville in the first place?
The answers appear to be connected to the same world Misty tried to leave behind.
Where Can You Watch Heartland?
Heartland will stream exclusively on Netflix beginning November 13, 2026.
The movie already has an official listing on Netflix, where viewers can also set a reminder.
As of the current release information, Netflix is the confirmed streaming home for the film.
Is Heartland a Movie or a TV Series?
Despite some search results using the word “show,” Heartland is a movie, not a TV series.
Netflix officially lists the 2026 title as a film with a runtime of 1 hour and 51 minutes. It is a mystery thriller/drama set around Nashville’s country music scene.
This distinction is important because the name Heartland is also strongly associated with the long-running Canadian television series, which explains why searches for “Heartland Netflix” can produce results about the TV show.
Heartland 2026 vs. the Older Heartland Movies
The new Netflix movie should not be confused with the earlier Heartland film from 1979 or the long-running Heartland television series.
The 2026 Netflix movie is a completely separate mystery thriller centered on Jessica Chastain’s character, Misty Jones.
That distinction is especially important for viewers searching for Heartland movie 2026, because Google results currently contain several different titles using the same name.
Final Thoughts
Heartland looks like one of Netflix’s more intriguing fall 2026 mystery releases.
Jessica Chastain leads a cast that combines established Hollywood actors with real country music performers, while Shana Feste returns to Nashville for a story built around disappearance, fame, family, and secrets.
The biggest question is what happened to Charlie Heart — but the trailer suggests that finding her may force Misty Jones to confront much more than her niece’s disappearance.
With the official trailer now released and the Netflix premiere set for November 13, 2026, Heartland is one to keep on the radar for fans of mystery thrillers and dark music-industry dramas.
Heartland premieres November 13, 2026, exclusively on Netflix.
